On October 25, 2024, YB Puan Thulsi Thivani, the Perak State Assembly Member for Buntong, officiated the launch of the "Perak Best" program, aimed at promoting a circular economy within strata housing in Ipoh. This initiative, led by MBI, focuses on encouraging recycling and waste reduction to transform waste into economic value.
Key goals of the program include enhancing the local economy through the "Waste to Wealth" approach, aligning with Ipoh's vision of becoming a smart and sustainable city by 2030, and contributing to national targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45%. The program also aims to achieve a national recycling rate of 40% by 2025.
Through the collaboration with Edsha Solutions Sdn Bhd as part of strategic partner have helped drive the program’s objectives. Together, they have successfully collected 466.79 metric tons of electronic waste (e-waste), resulting in a carbon reduction of 406.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent and generating RM 62,125.00 for the community across 613 collection points. Since its inception in 2021, Edsha together with other strategic partner, Tetra Pak and Biovisma, the intiative "Trash for Cash" have resulted over 7,300 metric tons of materials being recycled and has contributed RM 1.45 million to the public from the buying of the recycled material.
The launch event underscored the importance of community collaboration and sustainable practices, with a call for ongoing engagement to protect the environment and combat climate change.
